Message z32 twin turbo setups needing an "external dump" downpipe. Most of the times these are used is due to boost creep, due to lack of flow downstream of the turbo outlet and wastegate. These have been done for years on other cars (DSMs for one, I have had one on my 1g dsm for a few years, and it works great). Dont listen to the haters that fear straying off the beaten path, but dont do it just for the hell of it either. With the turbo placement in the z32 so low and tight to the body, it probably is not ultimately a good idea. Thats probably why it has never either been done to a great extent or accepted within the hi performance z32 turbo crowd....good luck man.

:swap that will be coming soon. I'm probably sure most of you have no idea what I'm talking about. So I guess I'll explain first of all. In an internal wastegate turbine set-up the wastegate it directly next to the turbine outlet as seen here:
:
:The others have an external wastegate that is seperate from the turbine housing:
:
:With the external wastegate you'll sometimes hear of people running an "open" wastegate...what this means is that the air is dumping straight out of the wastegate into the air..and not being routed back into the regular exhaust. The most noticable way to tell if a car has an open wastegate is by the sound. When the wastgate reaches the point at which it opens, a loud rushing/screaming sound is emitted similar to the sound of "thrust" from a jet..just at a much smaller scale of course.
:Enter the "cheatergate"...this is a custom turbine exhaust manifold that has a split or divorced plate between the two openings and then two seperate pipes exiting..one that comes out and continues through the normal exhaust from the turbine exhaust side and one that dumps to the atmosphere coming from the internal wastegate opening like such:
:
:
:That example is of my friends cheatergate for his FC3S. It basically allows more flow like in the external wastegate set-up and also helps eliminate boost creep...it's been done in Japan for god knows how long. I hope I didn't loose anyone here..but this is what I'm planning to do in the near future. (Here in Hawaii we have no emissions laws..I know in Cali and other places this would have a ref up your ass. But here it's no big deal. I only mention that because I know someone would have brought it up.)
